What Is Fibroblast Therapy?

Fibroblasts are the cells involved in producing collagen and elastin, the proteins associated with skin firmness and elasticity. They live in the deep layer of the skin. As we age, these cells become less active. Fibroblast therapy is being studied for its interaction with fibroblast activity. The therapy is investigational and not FDA-approved.

At Gold Standard Regenerative, we use precision plasma energy to create tiny heat zones in the skin. This sends a signal to the fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin. The result is firmer, smoother skin that improves over weeks, not years.

This therapy is positioned between non-invasive skincare and surgical procedures. Most patients return to normal activity relatively quickly. Research is investigating how the therapy may interact with skin cellular activity. Outcomes vary widely by individual; the therapy is investigational and not FDA-approved.

Two Approaches, One Goal

Your clinical team will recommend the best approach, or a combination of both, based on your skin concerns and type.

Modality 01
Plasma Fibroblast (Soft Surgery)

A small device creates a tiny electrical arc just above the skin, without ever touching it. This creates heat zones that tighten skin immediately and signal fibroblasts to make new collagen. It is sometimes called "soft surgery" because it tightens skin like a surgical procedure but without any cuts or stitches. Small crusts form at the treated spots and flake off naturally within 7 to 10 days. Full collagen growth takes 8 to 12 weeks.

Modality 02
Autologous Fibroblast Injection

A tiny skin sample is taken and used to grow more of your own fibroblast cells. These are then injected into target areas. The cells settle into the skin and boost collagen and elastin production. Outcomes vary widely by individual; published research in this area is limited and the therapy is investigational. Unlike fillers, any results that occur build gradually because the process relies on the patient's own cellular activity.

What We Treat

Fibroblast therapy can address many skin concerns caused by aging or past skin damage, on the face and body.

Fine lines and wrinkles (crow's feet, forehead lines, lip lines, marionette lines)
Skin laxity and sagging (jawline, neck, décolletage, eyelids)
Uneven skin texture, dullness, and loss of elasticity
Acne scarring and atrophic scars
Stretch marks through collagen remodeling and dermal thickening
Age spots, hyperpigmentation, and dyschromia
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
Overall skin quality restoration and preventive anti-aging

What to Expect

An outpatient visit with 7 to 10 days of healing. No cuts, no stitches, no general anesthesia.

01
Consultation & Skin Assessment

Your clinician takes baseline photos and builds a plan based on your skin concerns and skin type. We review any reasons you should not have the treatment and give you clear instructions to follow beforehand.

02
Numbing & Preparation

A numbing cream is applied 15 to 20 minutes before the session to keep you comfortable. The treatment area is then cleaned and prepared for the plasma device.

03
Plasma Treatment

The plasma pen is moved carefully over the treatment area in precise passes. Most patients feel a mild snapping sensation and warmth. Discomfort is minimal. There is no bleeding and no stitches. Sessions take 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area treated.

04
Days 1–7: Healing Phase

Some redness, swelling, and small crusts at the treatment sites are normal. They show your skin is healing. Use the barrier serum we prescribe, wear SPF 50 or higher every day, and avoid makeup, heat, and intense exercise for 7 to 10 days.

05
Weeks 2–12: Progressive Regeneration

The crusts fall off and redness fades. Over the next several weeks, new collagen builds up, skin tightens, and texture keeps improving. Peak results appear around 8 to 12 weeks.

Your Healing Timeline

Fibroblast therapy works by triggering real biological change. Results grow and deepen over several weeks as new collagen matures.

Day 1–2 Immediate Contraction

Skin tightens immediately as existing collagen fibers contract from the heat. Some redness and crusting are normal and expected.

Wk 2–4 Early Refinement

The crusts clear up. Skin texture starts to improve and fine lines begin to soften. Your skin looks more refreshed and polished.

Wk 4–8 Active Regeneration

The best improvement happens here. New collagen builds quickly. Wrinkles soften, skin becomes denser. Outcomes during this phase vary widely; individual responses depend on skin type, age, healing capacity, and post-care adherence.

Wk 8–12 Full Maturation

Collagen remodeling finishes. By the 3-month mark, new collagen is fully mature and results are at their peak. Those results last an average of 2 to 3 years.

Is This Right for You?

Safety Profile
  • Published research generally describes mild and transient adverse events when performed by trained providers; long-term safety data are still limited
  • Common reactions like redness, crusting, and mild swelling typically clear within 7 to 10 days
  • Temporary darkening of the skin is possible in some skin types; patch testing is recommended first
  • No cuts, no anesthesia, no stitches, but as with any procedure individual risks exist
  • The therapy is investigational and not FDA-approved; individual responses vary
Ideal Candidates
  • Mild to moderate skin aging, including wrinkles, sagging, texture issues, or scarring
  • Generally ages 30 to 65, in good health, with no active skin infections
  • Most skin types, with consultation and patch testing recommended for darker skin tones
  • Willing to follow post-care instructions, including daily SPF, for 2 weeks
  • Patient enough to wait 4 to 8 weeks for full results to appear
  • Not recommended if: you have an active autoimmune flare, uncontrolled diabetes, are on isotretinoin, or have a history of keloid scars

Fibroblast Therapy FAQ

What is fibroblast therapy?

Fibroblast therapy uses fibroblast cells — the primary cells responsible for producing collagen, elastin, and extracellular matrix — to support tissue regeneration, structural repair, and skin rejuvenation in regenerative medicine protocols.

What conditions does fibroblast therapy address?

Fibroblast therapy is evaluated for connective tissue concerns, fascial repair, skin laxity, and structural tissue support. Your physician determines candidacy based on your specific condition and goals.

How is fibroblast therapy different from stem cell therapy?

While stem cell therapy delivers multipotent cells with broad regenerative potential, fibroblast therapy is specialized for collagen production and connective tissue repair. They are often used together in combination protocols for complementary benefits.

How long does recovery take?

Most patients resume normal activities within a few days. Mild soreness or redness at the treatment site is common and typically resolves quickly. Your physician provides a personalized post-care plan.

Can fibroblast therapy be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Fibroblast therapy is frequently combined with stem cell therapy or exosome therapy in multi-modality protocols. Combination approaches are designed based on the patient's condition and treatment goals.
